The honest answer nobody leads with

You built an app with AI or no-code, it is straining, and you want to know the number: what does it cost to fix this? The honest answer is that it depends, and any firm quote you get before someone has read your actual code is a guess dressed up as a price.

That sounds evasive, so let us make it useful. Here is what genuinely drives the cost, why a full rewrite is usually the wrong frame, and how to get a real number without paying for a rebuild you might not need.

Rewrite is usually the wrong word

The instinct, when code is a mess, is to throw it away and start over. It is almost always the most expensive option, and usually the wrong one.

Your product is validated. People use it. The value is in what you proved, and a rewrite risks all of it - months with no new features, the chance of reintroducing bugs you already fixed, and the very real possibility of never shipping the replacement. Most of the time the right move is to restructure the app while it stays live, fixing the parts that are actually broken and keeping the parts that work.

So the real question is not "what does a rewrite cost," but "what does it cost to make this specific app production-ready," and that has a much smaller, much more knowable answer.

What actually drives the number

The cost of a rescue scales with a handful of concrete things:

  • How it was built. AI-generated code and no-code migrations have different, predictable problem patterns. Knowing the source narrows the work fast.
  • The size of the app. More screens, more workflows, more integrations means more surface to review and re-engineer.
  • How deep the problems go. Missing indexes and a few insecure endpoints are a different job from a data model that needs rebuilding.
  • The stage you are at. A prototype with no users is a very different rescue from a live product you cannot take offline.
  • Whether the app has to stay up. Zero-downtime work costs more than work on something nobody is using yet, because the migration has to run in parallel with the live app.

The point is that none of these are knowable from the outside. They are knowable from a read of the code, and that read is cheap.

Start with a diagnosis, not a quote

The lowest-risk way to get a real number is a fixed-fee audit. A senior engineer reviews your actual codebase and returns a severity-ranked report and a fixed-price plan - before anyone changes a line. You find out exactly how bad it is, or is not, and you get a number you can act on.

That is the point of our production-readiness audit: it turns "it depends" into a fixed scope and a fixed price. If you proceed with the rescue, the audit fee is credited toward it, so the diagnosis is not money spent twice.

If you are earlier than that and just want a rough sense of build cost, the free app cost calculator gives a real range and timeline in under a minute.

The cheapest mistake to avoid

The most expensive path is the one people take by default: keep pouring money into a fragile app, feature by feature, until a scaling incident or a security scare forces an emergency rebuild at the worst possible time.

A one-time $750 senior review, early, is the cheapest insurance against a five- or six-figure emergency later. It either confirms the app is fine, or it hands you a plan while you still have the luxury of choosing when to act.
